About the Department:

Commerce had developed to support the growing needs of business houses. However, over the years, there has been a fundamental shift in the very approach of commerce education; from a professional to a theoretical education. At this juncture there is a need to redefine the commerce education in the changing scenario and strengthen it further. Globalization and Technological trend have made difficult for organizations to survive in the competitive world. As a result, the importance of Commerce education has been increased many folds. The school of commerce should play pivotal role in equipping our future dynamic managers with the emerging trends of Commerce skills to face the challenges of dynamic business world.

A total no of 688 Books is available in the Department Library.

  • The Department is committed to integrate all facets of commerce and management to educate and train innovative and competent human resource globally suitable for industry, business and service sector and to equip and encourage them to start their own ventures in urban or rural areas benefitting both the classes and masses. Empowering students by providing all kind of knowledge of commerce with healthy practices and providing guidance, inspiring atmosphere and opportunities to the aspirants for quality education in Commerce.

               Departmental Achievements:

SPORTS: Students of Commerce about many prizes in inter collegiate tournament 2018-19 held at Arignar Anna Govt. Arts science Karaikal, in the sports like weightlifting, power lifting, Running etc., Students of Commerce achieved gold medal 1500 km running at 13th south zone athletes competition held at Guntur district of Andhar Pradesh. She completed her target in just 5. minutes04 seconds.

                 NSS: All the students of the department have joined in the College NSS units and actively participated in

                 special camps and other NSS activities.

                 NCC: Students of Commerce Department are actively participated in NCC.

                 CULTURAL: Students of Commerce are participated many cultural programmes like dancing and singing in

                 the college during college day celebrations Students of Commerce also good in other competition like Essay

                 Writing, Quiz competition Drawing etc., they got many prizes in this event. 

                 Opportunities in Commerce:

  • A graduate in commerce had ample opportunities as he can join any private institute or government organization as a specialist in any of the Commerce stream and they can also pursue professional courses such as Company Secretary, Chartered Accountant, and ICWA.
  • A graduate in Commerce can also opt careers in financial services as a Financial Consultants, Stockbrokers, Merchant Bankers, Budget Consultant, Financial Portfolio Manager, Project Formulation Manager, Tax Consultants.
  • A graduate in commerce will with specialization in Banking & Finance will have opportunity in Banks and Insurance companies.
  • B. Com. Course was started in academic year 1978-79. Subsequently M.Com. Course was introduced in the year 2000-01.
  • The intake capacity of students at entry level in B.Com is  Forty (40), and in M.Com is Twenty (20).

               B.Com. Students study:

  • Financial Accounting, Business Law, Business Economics, Principles of Management, Business Environment and Environmental Science during the first year.
  • In second year, they study Corporate Accounting, Business Statistics, Company Law, Cost Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Auditing and Business Mathematics.
  • In third year, they study Income Tax, Computer Application, Management Accounting, Marketing, International Marketing, Indirect Taxes, Advertisement and sales Promotion and Consumer Behaviour.

                M.Com. Students study:

  • Management Concepts and Organizational Behaviour, Business Environment, Advanced Financial Accounting, Statistical Methods, Human Resource Management, Managerial Economics, Accounting for Managerial Decisions, Marketing Management, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management & Financial Management in first year.
  • In second year, Financial Markets & Services, Economic Legislation, Corporate Tax Planning & Management, Marketing Research, Advertising and Sales management Strategic Management, E-Commerce, Corporate Reporting & Practices, Comp. Application, Corporate Law, Corporate Tax Planning, Strategic Management, E-Commerce, Brand Management.
  • In the year 2017-18, Choice –Based Credit System (CBSC) was introduced for UG Course and in 2021-22 for PG Course.

               Departmental Activities:

  • In order to pursue the academic activities in a planned manner, a semester wise as well as the monthly plan was formulated with proper consultation with the faculty members of Commerce.  Accordingly, the timetable and subject allocation were done.
  • The department has constituted The Commerce Association with a view to ensure all round development of the student community.
  • Organized One (01) regional Workshop on “Entrepreneurial Development” in February 2016.
  • The faculty members are encouraged to participate in Seminars, Conferences, Faculty Development Programmes (FDP) and other academic activities for enriching their knowledge and to strengthen the department. Accordingly, they had participated in various activities during the year.
  • Faculty members are actively participating in research work, publishing papers and articles in various referred journals, both National and International.
  • Dr. R. Uma Devi and Mrs. Shaik Khwajabi qualified APSET in 2018.
  • Mrs. V. Sridevi, Mrs. Shaik Khwajabi and Mr. B. Veerabhadra Rao registered for Ph. D. in JNTUK and Andhra University respectively.
  • During the Pandemic, the faculty of Commerce participated in various Online programs such as FDPs, Quiz Competitions, Webinars etc. in order to have updated knowledge in teaching, Use of Online Teaching Tools and so on.
  • During the COVID Pandemic, the department organized Seven (07) National Online Quiz Competitions and Six (06) National webinars during 2020-21.
  • In the year 2021-22, the department organized Six (06) National webinars.
  • Apart from the Academics, the faculty is participating in various Extra-Curricular activities and successfully performing their responsibilities.

           Initiatives Undertaken:

  • Assignments and project works are assigning to the students in order to inculcate various writing and presentation skills.
  • The unit tests are conducted towards the preparation of Mid-semester and End-semester examinations.
  • Various initiatives have undertaken to overcome the language barriers and to improve their communication skills.
  • Participatory method of teaching is encouraged.
  • Departmental Library is maintaining for students to provide books for reference purpose.
  • The faculty members are encouraged to participate in Seminars, Conferences, Faculty Development Programmes (FDP) and other academic activities for enriching their knowledge and to strengthen the department. Accordingly, they had participated in various activities during the year.
  • ‘Student Commerce Study Circle’ is constituting every academic year for developing the practical knowledge of Commerce as well as skills of Decision Making and Management Style.

          Research Activities:

  • Dr. Yoginder Singh is supervising Three (03) Ph. D. scholars in JNTUK, and Dr. R. Uma Devi is supervising One (01) research scholar in SRM University, Chennai.
  • Dr. Yoginder Singh published Fourteen (14) research papers, attended Seven (07) Seminars and Thirty-Eight (38) Conferences/Workshops/Training & FDP Programmes/Webinars and Quiz Competitions. He acted as a Resource Person for Five (05) Events.
  • Dr. Uma Devi, Mrs.V. Sridevi and Mrs. Shaik Kwajabi have attended Three (03) Refresher Programs each.
  • Dr. Uma Devi has contributed Four (04) books, Eighteen (18) research articles in various National & International Peer-reviewed journals and Nineteen (19) chapters in Edited books. She also contributed Four (04) papers in Conference Proceedings.
  • She participated & presented in Thirty (30) National and International Seminars/Conferences/Workshops. She acted as Resource person for Seven (07) National Seminars and One (01) International Conference.
  • She participated in Sixty-Four (64) Online Quiz Competitions, Forty-Two (42) Online FDPs, One Hundred and Fifty-Two (152) National Webinars and Thirty-Two (32) International Webinars.
  • She organized Two National Webinar Series of Six (06) Webinars each during 2020-21 and 2021-22. She also organized Seven (07) National Online Quiz Competitions.
  • During the period Mrs. V. Sridevi published Seven (07) research papers and attended Fourteen (14) Conferences/Workshops/Training & FDP Programmes/Webinars and Quiz Competitions.
  • Mrs. Shaik Khwajabi published and Three (03) research papers and attended Seven (07) Seminars and Thirty-Eight (38) Conferences/Workshops/Training & FDP Programmes/Webinars and Quiz Competitions.
  • Mrs. D. Jaya Bharathi and Mr. B. Veerabhadra Rao contributed Two (02) research papers each and also attended Two (02) Seminars and Eleven (11) Conferences/Workshops/Training & FDP Programmes/Webinars and Nine (09) Quiz Competitions.

         Future Plans:

  • To develop Commerce lab.
  • To publish Reference Books and Research Papers.
  • The Department Proposes to hold seminars for U.G.  & PG Students to provide them opportunities to develop social skills and knowledge.
  • To strengthen ICT based teaching and learning.
  • To establish Research Centre.
  • To organize industrial tours to impart practical knowledge to the students.
